I've opened up MS Word and the macros are not there.

The macros aren't available to every Word session, to use the macro in Word open either APA Blank, or APA Template from the "Start", "Programs", "APA Referencing Macros" folder.

Can I make the macros available every time I start MS Word?

Sure, copy the "APA Reference.dot" file and the "apahelp.hlp" file in the "C:\Program Files\APA Referencing Macros\" directory and then paste it into the directory where your MS Word templates live. This is either "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Templates" or "C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates". Now rename the file "Normal.dot" in the template folder to something like "Normal_bak.dot" then rename the "APA Reference.dot" to "Normal.dot". The macros will always be available when you start MS Word.

I can't get to the buttons on the 'Insert In-Text Citation from Already Referenced Source' form?

If you are running your computer monitor on anything less than 800x600 resolution this form will be too big for the window. To change your monitor's resolution, minimize all running applications, right click on the desktop, select properties, settings then change the screen area to at least 800x600.

The Macros don't run at all.

If absolutely nothing happens when you click on a macro, check the Macro Security Setting. Goto 'Tools, Macros, Security' and check that at least Medium Security is Selected, you may have to shut Word down and reopen for this to take effect, this will then prompt you to enable macros when the file is loaded.

How can I save my Name and Instution so I don't have to enter it every time I write a new essay?

Open Explorer, go to 'Program Files, APA Referencing Macros', right click on the file you wish to change the properties in, either the 'APA Template.doc' or 'APA Blank.doc" select properties, uncheck the Read Only Attribute. Open MS Word, open the file you made read/write, go to 'File, Properties, Summary' and enter the info you wish to change. Save the file, go back to explorer and recheck the Read Only Attribute.

The insert button on the "Insert In-Text Citation from Already Reference Source" form is greyed out, how do I enable it?

Before you can insert an in-text citation from an already referenced source you must select an author or some material from this list box, must select either Quote less than 40 words, Quotes more than 40 words or Summaries & Paraphrasing from these option buttons, if using direct quotes, choose either "p" or "para" from the drop down and you must enter a page or paragraph number.
Then the Insert button will be enabled.

When do I enter a period in the "Enter New Reference" macro?

Generally you don't, only in the Edition, in Books, Reports & Brocures eg.(3rd ed.) and in Editors in Book Chapter or Article in a Collection eg. (A. A. Editor & B. B. Editor) and in the Translator, in A Translated Work eg. (A. A. Translator & B. B. Translator), in all other places the periods will be entered for you.

Conflict with Adobe Acrobat Pro 6.0. The Icons for Acrobat 6.0 cover the APA Referencing Macros Menus?

1. Left clicking the adobe PDF icon and selecting conversion settings brings the referencing icon back onto the tool bar. It is not necessary to make any changes to the adobe settings, simply activating the menu selection then vacating leaves the referencing macro icon on the tool bar.

2. Right click on an empty space in the menu bar and press the "customize" button, then cancel, without making any changes, the menu appears.
